OSP Engineering Technician I
Communication Network Engineering, Inc. (CNE)

JOB SUMMARY:  The Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering Technician I provides design assistance and inspection of telecommunications outside plant construction projects. This role typically works under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the preparation of construction drawings, including electronically drawn staking sheets (Visio) and maps (AutoCAD/GIS)
  • Works with contractors to determine the needs of the project, including ped staking, fiber placement routes, and bore locations
  • Supports the preparation of construction units and progress reports for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Researches private easement regulations
  • Collects field data utilizing GPS units and other collection tools
  • Supports the on-site inspection and supervision of the outside plant construction to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications
  • Records as-built records for the project
  • With guidance of OSP Tech II, updates construction drawings with as-built data
  • Supports the as-built mapping using ArcGIS or AutoCAD, as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • HS Education or GED equivalent
  • One year of experience in the utility construction industry, preferred but not required
  • Comprehensive computer skills (Microsoft Office, Visio, and AutoCAD experience preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to excel working both independently and as a part of a team
  • The ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Extended travel required
  • The ability to work overtime during the construction season
  • Willingness to learn and grow
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
