Network Manager Mahaska Communication Group
Primary Purpose: Responsible for managing the Network and System Administration functions, as well as software systems, of a fiber to the home network providing broadband, telephone, IP-based video, and transport services to residential and commercial customers as well as providing leadership for the Network/System Administrators. This role will provide guidance on the next-generation of tools/systems that could add value to the business.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure Network and Systems reliability and operation, including data, video, voice, and Transparent LAN services.
- Develop, manage and maintain security and disaster recovery procedures.
- Provide management oversight on the service provisioning platforms and define expected performance levels.
- Research, development and testing of new technologies/strategies to execute business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with and management of all contractual and licensing agreements for hardware and software maintenance and support.
- Provide technical expertise, instruction and support to Network/System Administrators and Support Technicians.
- Serve as point of escalation for technical support, and in some cases work closely with customer to provision or troubleshoot services.
- Develop, monitor and report project schedules and requirements.
- Participate in strategic planning and Executive review of projects as necessary.
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises Network/Systems Administrators and Application Analyst/Programmer. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education & Experience Requirements: Four-year science, technology, or engineering degree and 5+ years experience in an IP-based networking environment. IP-based video head end and IP telephony is highly desired.
Job Specifications:
- Knowledge of UNIX & Windows based operating systems and TCP/IP, Linux, DHCP, Multicast, SIP communication protocols.
- Knowledge of UNIX & Windows security.
- Knowledge of devices like routers, firewalls, switches, VPN gateways.
- Knowledge of web-based technologies such as web services, SOAP, WEB2.0
- Knowledge of a computer programming language such as PHP, Python, or PERL
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Self-directed, work with little supervision.
- Life-long learner - willing to find the answer if not known.
- Will occasionally meet with customers in a sales engineer role.

Hours: 8-5 Monday through Friday. Available after hours if needed.
