General Manager/COO Modern Cooperative Telephone Company
The General Manager/Chief Operating Officer serves as the top leader of Modern Coop’s business. This role has the overall responsibility of ensuring the business meets its commitments to shareholder/customers. Reporting relationship is to the Board of Directors. Modern Coop has recently expanded its fiber service area with 2 infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
- Delight Customers through a ‘Customer First” mindset
- Provide technical solutions that reduce business process defects
- Develop budget objectives & controls to manage spending to meet metric targets
- Establish KPI’s and metrics that effectively communicate to both the Board and Customer/owners
- Develop a Continuous Improvement culture that embraces a mindset of change amongst employees
- Perform leadership duties to develop the team through performance coaching/mentoring
- Establish strategic direction for the business
- Foster a culture of excellence within the entire Modern Coop Team including the Board
- Advises the Board on trusteeship duties, planning, and exercise of adequate and effective control
- Serves as a corporate executive before regulatory agencies, legislative bodies, and industry associations and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Approves compensation and benefits program for all employees
- Engage with local community stakeholders to ensure alignment with social efforts
- Perform other duties as requested by the Board
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Seeking a leader with people development skills that can manage the business for targeted results
- Industry experience relative to fiber technology with knowledge of software tools that will improve network reliability
- Experience with telecommunications regulatory filing requirements
- Customer focused experience
- Creative and analytical thinker
- Practical application of Cyber Security techniques to mitigate risk within budgeted spend
- Knowledge of telecommunications industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Problem solving skills that demonstrate ability to get to root cause
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite products
- Ability to explain technical problems & solutions to Board members and others with low technical knowledge
- Interpersonal skills that establish and maintain effective relationships with all business stakeholders including employees in a courteous and professional manner
- Lead & manage teams
- Possesses a strong financial and business acumen
- Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards
- Able to recruit, hire, coach, evaluate, discipline, and terminate if needed
Education:
- Technical Bachelor’s Degree preferred or significant technical experience
- Five to seven years’ preferred experience in leadership
Other:
- Some overnight travel required
- Some after-hours ‘On Call’ required
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen
- Able to work in the United States
- Standing & sitting for periods of time required
- Occasional minor lifting requirements
