Sharon Telephone Company in Hills Iowa is seeking a Manager for Network Operations, Outside Plant and Central Office.  The top candidate will be able to organize and coordinate operations to ensure consistent effectiveness and efficiency. They will be the technical lead for the company. They will provide support, planning and day to day management of our technical staff. Provide technical guidance to GM.

Duties & Responsibilities Essential to this Position

  • Oversee the construction, replacement, removal, and maintenance of fiber network, transmission equipment, transmission and switching facilities.
  • Ensure continuous operation of outside plant, CO facilities and associated equipment.
  • Assist in the design of the communications infrastructure, fiber, and remote facilities within professional engineering standards, company specifications, and safety and code requirements.
  • Researches new and existing technologies, products, and services for the purpose of determining viable expansion opportunities.
  • Devise strategies to ensure growth of programs enterprise-wide, identifying and implementing process improvements that will maximize output and minimize costs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals.
  • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Ensure staff understands procedures, regulations, safety measures, and preventive maintenance for all equipment.
  • Oversee routine maintenance services to facilities, grounds, company vehicles and equipment.
  • Work to maintain good public relations between the company, customers and general public.
  • Helps plan, develop, and make recommendations on employee development, safety, job training, work programs, procedures, and equipment.
  • Supervises employees with respect for quality, and safety of their work in accordance with the company's policies. Provide clear performance expectations and timely and effective feedback.
  • Make recommendations to the CEO/GM on staffing, budget, plant equipment and supplies, short- and long-range work plans.
  • Ensure technical staff personnel possess a complete understanding of company products, services and pricing as well as the ability to effectively communicate this information to existing and potential customer. Technical staff should provide product and service recommendations to customers based on their specific communications needs.
  • Maintain plant records and maps as required. Provide updates to Accounting Department to maintain accurate continuing property records.
  • Responsible for accurate and complete records of time, material, and other charges incurred in work performed. Works with Accounting and the Customer Service/Billing Coordinator to ensure correct company coding, accurate and timely payment of invoices.
  • Requisition material and supplies. Maintains adequate inventory, ordered timely and cost effectively. Issue purchase orders in accordance with company policy.
  • Work with the CEO/GM to establish and implement the company disaster recovery plans and ensure staff is prepared for emergency situations. Review annually with management for necessary updates.
  • Ensure safety in work techniques and environment.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge and skills usually acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, IT or related field.
  • Eight years of progressive plant or broadband experience.
  • Familiarity with RUS, FCC, and state PSC specifications, regulations, and standards. Understanding of telecommunications technology, materials, and equipment.
  • Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • High level of attention to detail, schedules, and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management expertise demonstrating the knowledge of project management tools, processes and techniques to meet the project requirements and the effective behaviors and interactions to successfully implement multiple, related projects.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret business and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with staff.

Environmental Conditions
  • Normal office environment with exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places,
  • risk of electrical shock, moderate noise levels, and frequent vehicular travel.
  • Frequent maneuvering of equipment weighing up to 30 pounds; periodically up to 75 pounds.

Equipment & Tools
Daily use of various hand tools, electronic equipment, and standard office equipment.
