Central Office/IT Technician

The Central Office / IT Technician position will be required to perform the following job duties but not necessarily limited to:
  • Maintain functionality of five central offices, remotes and all power, switching and network transport equipment.  Fixed wireless Internet equipment.
  • Program daily switching service order activity and trouble-shooting resolutions.
  • Responsible for certain weekly and monthly central office maintenance routines.
  • Ensure batteries and power plants are functioning properly.
  • Keep central offices and cell tower shelters clean and organized.
  • Responsible for keeping record of all log-on and passwords for central office and wireless equipment.
  • Maintain web-sites and updates.
  • Keep accurate central office records.
  • On-call rotation with the other technicians, typically weekends and holidays.
  • Work with General Manager and other technicians on various projects as needed.
  • Maintain the functionality of the PST Digital wireless equipment and the cell tower sites.

  • Live within acceptable distance of the Sully Telephone exchange.
  • Punctual and able to work outside of normal business hours for customer troubles and/or outages.
  • Safety awareness.
  • Self-directed and hold a positive attitude.  Team player.
  • Ability to distinguish between different colors (not color-blind).
  • Basic computer skills – Email, Word, Excel.
  • Good organizational skills.  Good housekeeping skills.
  • Proven experience with telephone and Broadband services, MikroTik and Arista central office routers, DC battery maintenance, Lenkurt T1 channel banks, DSX panel wiring, Fujitsu fiber terminals, Calix Active Ethernet and GPON OLT access/ONTs, Calix CMS server, RedCom and Taqua voice switching, voice mail, SIP protocols local and trunking, Ceragon micro-wave and Radwin Line-of-Sight wireless equipment.
  • Understanding of DHCP IP, static IP, etc. 
  • Fiber fusion splicing experience preferred.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate test equipment such as VOMs, T-Berd, fiber power and light meters, OTDRs, etc.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.
  • Ability to have good communication with the work team and have interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain courteous rapport with our customers and the communities.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and lift and climb ladders.
  • Able to work in various weather conditions.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
