Lead Network Technician

STC is a 100% fiber optic independent broadband and phone provider located 5 miles south of Iowa City. We are seeking a hands-on technical leader that is customer-focused, self-motivated, and team-oriented to deliver a first-class network experience to our customers. About the Role
As Lead Network Technician you will be a critical member of our team, ensuring smooth operations and optimal performance of our network. This role ensures that critical network equipment is appropriately monitored so STC has accurate, real-time insights to make important decisions. The Lead Tech plays a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence across several network locations. Beyond performing the daily job, this position includes network leadership by managing a small team of technicians, providing real-time technical oversight, and ensuring adherence to company standards. The Lead Tech will also serve as an on-site mentor and trainer for new and junior technicians, instilling STC’s values of quality, safety, and reliability while maintaining high performance and accountability across the team.
 
Lead Network Technician Core Responsibilities:
This position requires you to be in-person at work.
  • Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining network equipment
  • Configuring and maintaining Calix, Arista, Accedian and Fortinet network equipment
  • IT support for inter-company network
  • Fiber splicing in the field
  • Fiber to the Home Installation
  • Being on-call every third week is a requirement of this job
  • Valid driver’s license is required and must have a good driving record as a company vehicle is provided
  • Assist with training new field tech hires
  • High level of customer focus with a customer first attitude. Positive mindset a must
  • Team work and strong communication skills.
  • Locating underground fiber
 
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
  • Hands-on experience performing fiber to the home installs
  • Experience with Calix, Arista, Accedian and Fortinet network equipment
  • Fiber splicing
  • Arista Certified Engineer (ACE) credentials
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certifications
  • Locating of underground fiber
  • Willingness to participate in pre-employment screening process (drug screen and background checks)
  • Associate degree or technical certification in electronics, networking, IT or a related field
  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to solve complex challenges within and outside assigned responsibilities
